International pax to/from Australia up 5% to 29 million in FY2011/12, cargo up
Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reports (16-Nov-2012) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia for the 12 months ended Jun-2012:
- Passenger numbers: 28.9 million, +4.8% year-on-year;
- Available seats: 38.3 million, +3.6%;
- Flights: 156,100, +3.8%;
- Freight: 856,785 tonnes, +4.2%;
- Mail: 43,683 tonnes, +3.2%;
- Aircraft movements: 164,473, +2.1%;
- Share of operated seats by region:
- Southeast Asia: 39.9%;
- New Zealand: 20.7%;
- Northeast Asia: 17.7%;
- North America: 8.2%;
- Islands: 5.9%;
- Middle East: 5.8%;
- Africa: 1.5%;
- South America: 0.3%;
- Top 10 countries by passenger movements:
- Top 10 international carriers:
- Share of passengers carried:
- Qantas: 18.1%;
- Singapore Airlines: 9.1%;
- Emirates: 8.2%;
- Air New Zealand: 8.2%;
- Jetstar: 8.1%;
- Virgin Australia: 7.6%;
- Cathay Pacific: 5.2%;
- Malaysia Airlines: 3.9%;
- Thai Airways: 3.3%;
- AirAsia X: 2.4%;
- Others: 25.9%.
- LCCs share: 15.6%.
Australia's BITRE reported (16-Nov-2012) compared to 2001-02, Qantas Airways' share has decreased by 16.3 percentage points, Singapore Airlines' share has decreased by 2.8 percentage points, Air New Zealand's share has decreased by 1.6 percentage points and Emirates' share has increased by 6.7 percentage points. The decrease in share for the Qantas group (Qantas Airways, Jetstar and Jetstar Asia in 2011-12 compared to Qantas in 2001-02) was 7.9 percentage points. [more - original PR]
