Based at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport with secondary hubs in Phuket and Chiang Mai, Thai Airways is the national airline of Thailand and majority-owned by the Thai Ministry of Finance. Thai Airways operates an extensive network of domestic and regional services throughout Thailand and Asia and international services to Europe, North America, Australia and New Zealand. Thai Airways is a founding member of Star Alliance.
Thai Airways received approval in Jun-2021 from Thailand's Central Bankruptcy Court (CBC) to commence a restructuring plan. Thai Airways announced creditors holding 78.59% of the company's total debt approved the carrier's business rehabilitation plan on 01-Sep-2022.
On 17-May-2023, Thai Airways announced its creditors committee approved a plan to merge operations with Thai Smile as part of efforts to reduce losses. The merger will result in aircraft currently operated by Thai Smile coming under management of Thai Airways. The companies will manage operations, flight planning, scheduling and route network and fleet under a joint AOC. The merger is due to be completed by the end of 2023.
