Thai Airways Group
About
Thai Airways Group incorporates Thai Airways International, the national carrier of Thailand, hybrid regional carrier; Thai Smile and low cost carrier; Nok Air. Originally founded in 1960, Thai Airways International is a founding member of Star Alliance and operates an extensive international and domestic network of air passenger and cargo services from its base at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport. Thai Smile commenced services on 07-Jul-2012 and received its own Air Operator's Certificate on 31-Mar-2014, distinguishing the carrier as a subsidiary of Thai Airways rather than a business unit. Thai also holds a 15.9% stake in associate LCC, Nok Air.
Thai Airways received approval in Jun-2021 from Thailand's Central Bankruptcy Court (CBC) to commence a restructuring plan. In Jul-2022, Thai Airways announced it accomplished progress in its business reorganisation and expects to complete capital restructuring within 2024.
Thai Smile ceased operations from 31-Dec-2023 and Thai Airways assumed full control of Thai Smile's assets and services from this date. Thai Airways will manage nine domestic routes previously operated by Thai Smile, which will continue under a TG flight code until the end of Mar-2024.
