International pax to/from Australia up 8% in Jul-2013, capacity (seats) also up 8%

Australia’s Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reports (09-Oct-2013) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia in Jul-2013:

  • Passenger numbers: 2.8 million, +7.7% year-on-year;
  • Available seats: 3.6 million, +7.7%;
  • Flights: 14,684, +7.2%;
  • Cargo volume: 72,438 tonnes, -1.5%;
  • Aircraft movements: 15,412, +5.6%;
  • Top 10 international carriers:
  • Share of passengers carried:
    • Qantas: 16.9%, -0.2 ppt;
    • Emirates: 9.4%, +1.2 ppts;
    • Singapore Airlines: 9.0%, +0.2 ppt;
    • Virgin Australia: 8.0%, -0.8 ppt;
    • Air New Zealand: 8.0%, -0.2 ppt;
    • Jetstar: 7.1%, -1.3 ppts;
    • Cathay Pacific: 4.4%, -0.2 ppt;
    • Malaysia Airlines: 4.0%, +0.4 ppt;
    • Thai Airways: 3.4%, -0.4 ppt;
    • AirAsia X: 3.4%, +0.6 ppt;
  • Share of cargo carried:
    • Singapore Airlines: 16.7%, +2.4 ppts;
    • Qantas: 13.8%, -2.2 ppts;
    • Emirates: 12%, -0.2 ppt;
    • Cathay Pacific: 7.9%, -1.0 ppts;
    • Malaysia Airlines: 6.2%, -0.5 ppts;
    • Air New Zealand: 5.5%, stable;
    • Thai Airways: 4.1%, -0.4 ppt;
    • Etihad Airways: 3.6%, +1.2 ppts;
    • UPS: 2.6%, stable;

BITRE also reported (09-Oct-2013) LCCs - AirAsia X, Indonesia AirAsia, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Tigerair and Scoot accounted for 14.2% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in Jul-2013. The LCC share in Jul-2012 was 14.3%.
