SIA adjusts winter network, increased capacity to Mumbai, Perth, A380s to San Francisco

Singapore Airlines stated (24-Jul-2012) it will be making network adjustments during the Northern Winter operating season (28-Oct-2012 to 30-Mar-2013), comprising capacity increases on several routes, reductions on others and seasonal aircraft changes. The adjustments are in line with efforts to redeploy capacity to markets where demand is stronger. Details include:

  • Australia: A fourth daily service will be operated to Perth, up from three times daily at present. Capacity will also increase to Melbourne with A380 aircraft to be used for two of the three daily frequencies up from one at present. This will take effect from 16-Aug-2012 and continue through the Northern Winter season;
  • India: Mumbai frequency will increase from 19 to 21 times weekly;
  • US: Daily Hong Kong service which continues to San Francisco will be served with the A380 instead of Boeing 777-300ER aircraft on a seasonal basis between 28-Dec-2012 and 24-Mar-2013. This will increase to two the number of Hong Kong services served each day with the A380, while it will be the first time the carrier will be operating the A380 to San Francisco;
  • Japan: Tokyo Narita will be served with two A380s each day instead of one. This will also be on a seasonal basis between 28-Dec-2012 and 24-Mar-2012 in place of 777-300ER services. The existing A380 service will continue to operate to Tokyo Narita and on to Los Angeles;
  • Middle East: New Singapore-Riyadh-Jeddah service will be operated three times weekly in place of existing services to Riyadh via Dubai and to Jeddah via Abu Dhabi. As previously announced, Abu Dhabi services will be suspended from late Oct-2012;
  • Europe: Service to Athens will be suspended from late Oct-2012. Frequency to both Milan and Barcelona will be reduced from seven to five times weekly. Singapore-Istanbul service will be reduced from five to four times weekly. Singapore-Frankfurt-New York A380 services will be switched to B777-300ER services on a seasonal basis between 27 December and 24 March. As previously announced, frequency to London Heathrow will increase from three to four times daily; [more - original PR]
