Athens International Airport opened in 2001 and replaced Ellinikon International Airport. The main international gateway to Greece, Athens International hosts passenger and cargo traffic from over 40 regional and international airlines and is a hub for airlines including Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines. A resort development is planned for the old Ellinikon International Airport site.
