International pax to/from Australia up 7% to 2.7m in May-2016, capacity (Seats) up 9.4% to 3.9m

Australia's Bureau of Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Economics (BITRE) reports (29-Jul-2016) the following international traffic highlights to/from Australia in May-2016:

Passenger numbers: 2.7 million, +6.5% year-on-year;
Available seats: 3.9 million, +9.4%;
Flights: 15,066, +7.2%;
Cargo volume: 83,015 tonnes,+4.8%;
Aircraft movements: 15,330, +7.2%;
Top 10 international carriers:
- Share of passengers carried:
- - Qantas: 16.2%, +0.1 ppt;
  - Jetstar: 10.2%, +0.6 ppt;
  - Emirates: 8.9%, -1.4 ppt;
  - Singapore Airlines: 8.0%, -0.7 ppt;
  - Air New Zealand: 6.6%, -0.1 ppt;
  - Virgin Australia: 6.2%, -1.7 ppts;
  - Cathay Pacific Airways: 5.4%, -0.4 ppt;
  - AirAsia X: 3.5%, +0.8 ppt;
  - China Southern Airlines: 2.7%, +0.6 ppt;
  - Etihad Airways: 2.6%, +0.2 ppt;
- Share of cargo carried:
- - Singapore Airlines: 17.0%, -1.5 ppts;
  - Qantas: 13.2%, +0.3 ppt;
  - Emirates: 12.4%, -0.1 ppt;
  - Cathay Pacific Airways: 7.7%, +0.7 ppt;
  - Air New Zealand: 4.8%, -0.2 ppt;
  - Thai Airways: 3.4%, -0.2 ppt;

  - China Southern Airlines: 3.1%, +0.5 ppt;
  - Federal Express Corporation: 3.0%, +1.6 ppts;

BITRE also reported LCCs AirAsia X, Cebu Pacific Air, Indonesia AirAsia, Indonesia AirAsia Extra, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Scoot and Tigerair Australia accounted for 19.1% of total international passenger traffic to/from Australia in May-2016. LCC share in May-2015 was 16.2%.
