DFS reports successful ODP approaches programme under SESAR JU

Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) announced (09-Dec-2016) a consortium of European ANSPs and airlines have optimised numerous arrival flows to nine airports in Europe, through the SESAR JU funded optimised decent profile (ODP) programme. ANSPs involved in the project included DFS, Austro Control, DSNA and Skyguide, while Eurocontrol MUAC also participated. A total of 11,467 demonstration flights were conducted with ODPs, with the project having the potential to generate fuel savings of 3400 tonnes p/a. Eurocontrol stated this equates to more than 10,700 tonnes of CO2 emissions. Air France, Deutsche Lufthansa AG and Swiss International Airlines conducted the demonstration flights at EuroAirport Basel, Berlin Tegel Airport, Frankfurt Airport, Geneva Airport, Strasbourg Entzheim Airport, Stuttgart Airport, Vienna International Airport and Zurich Airport.
