bmibaby planning to expand from Manchester

bmibaby new Managing Director, Julian Carr, stated the LCC plans to expand from 2011, including the launch of five to seven additional routes from Manchester (Crain's Manchester Business, 22-Apr-2010). However, firm plans are yet to be made and the carrier is yet to decide on routes. Mr Carr stated the carrier is examining European cities that would suit business passengers. Lufthansa has assured the carrier there will be resources available to develop the new services. bmibaby already operates to Belfast, Bordeaux, Geneva, Prague, Newquay, Lisbon, Lourdes, Palma, Perpignan, and Toulouse from Manchester. Mr Carr added bookings for 2010 are stronger than 2009.

Bmibaby:
"Lufthansa have said 'game on'. They believe in low cost in their portfolio. They have low cost in Germany but not in the UK. It's great to get their support. It's a blank sheet ahead of us. We want to be growing. We are small but we have a big owner that wants to make us work … We are seeing a lot of growth for the summer. They are confident of booking a summer holiday. But we are also seeing a lot of extra bookings on city breaks, for example people going away in May. We are seeing a stronger year and we have to build on that," Julian Carr, Managing Director.
