Embraer talking with engine manufacturers regarding new larger aircraft

Embraer stated it is in talks with General Electric, Rolls-Royce and Pratt & Whitney regarding next generation engines for a new aircraft type (Dow Jones, 02-Sep-2009). Among the new aircraft options being discussed by the manufacturer is a commercial jet that is slightly larger than the existing E-jet family and more in line with Bombardier's CSeries product. Embraer plans make a decision on next generation aircraft in the next 18 to 24 months. Any new aircraft would not be rolled out until the second half of the next decade.

Embraer: "We are looking at a series of commercial options, including larger commercial jets and turboprops. No decision has been taken but we are deep in discussion… However, it is difficult to make a decision on this without knowing the plans of the major players. We need to know what Boeing and Airbus are planning for this segment," Mauro Kern, VP for Airline Market. Source: Dow Jones, 02-Sep-2009.
