Copa Holdings launches LCC startup Wingo, operating from Colombia to 10 countries
Copa Holdings SA launched (20-Oct-2016) Wingo, a new affiliate LCC carrier in Colombia, with services commencing on 01-Dec-2016 and ticket sales effective 20-Oct-2016. Wingo details are as follows:
- General Manager: Catalina Breton;
- Main hub: Bogota El Dorado International Airport;
- Fleet: Four 142 seat Boeing 737-700 aircraft in one class configuration;
- Network: 16 cities in 10 countries in Latin America;
- Business model: Point-to-point with simple organisational structure.
Copa Holdings CEO Pedro Heilbron stated, "We are proud to launch Wingo, which diversifies and expands Copa Holdings' business and operational models, allowing us to better serve a market segment where many opportunities for growth and development still exist". He added: "Copa Holdings' economies of scale and business culture will allow Wingo to control costs better". Wingo will operate administratively and functionally under Copa Airlines Colombian unit, with completely autonomous structures for its commercialisation, distribution systems and customer service.
