Dominican Republic

Region: Latin America : Caribbean

Dominican Republic is a nation on the island of La Hispaniola, part of the Greater Antilles in the Caribbean region. Due to its location air transport is the most convenient way to arrive to the Dominican Republic. This nation has several international airports served by many different airlines. Gregorio Luperon International Airport (POP), Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) and Las Americas International Airport are the major airports of the Dominican Republic. The privately owned Punta Cana International Airport is the country’s largest and busiest airport and the main hub for dominant carrier Caribbean Air Sign. PAWA Dominicana was the national and international flag carrier of the Dominican Republic though it ceased operation in Mar-2012. The airline was established as a subsidiary of Pan American World Airways. The Directorate General of Civil Aeronautics is the regulatory body in charge of aviation matters.
