AirAsia X operating performance exceeded expectations in 2Q2016, outlook 'cautiously optimistic'
AirAsia X Group said (02-Aug-2016) operating performance in 2Q2016 exceeded expectations as demand returned in all regions on the back of its ongoing turnaround plan initiated in 2015. The carrier said a 13% year-on-year increase in capacity was "well absorbed." During the quarter, Malaysia AirAsia X increased Melbourne, Osaka, Perth and Sapporo frequency in response to increasing demand, commenced Tehran service and took delivery of two A330s. Thai AirAsia X commenced Muscat and Tehran services. AirAsia X remains cautiously optimistic regarding its operating performance, given ongoing regulatory issues, the challenging competitive landscape, currency volatility and other external factors. The carrier will continue to strengthen its core markets, especially China, and explore strategic initiatives to ensure sustainable growth. [more - original PR]
