US State Department criticises Iran-Egypt aviation agreement

US State Department criticised an agreement between Egypt and Iran to resume direct flights between their capitals for the first time in three decades with 28 weekly frequencies between Cairo and Tehran (PressTV/Payvand News, 09-Oct-2010). No date for the resumption of services were specified.

US State Department:"We're aware of the reports that they've signed a memorandum of understanding to resume direct flights. And we continue to urge all countries, including Egypt, not to pursue any new business deals until Iran complies with its international obligations. Given the current atmosphere ... we're trying to discourage this kind of engagement with Iran, until it owns up to its international obligations," Mark Toner, spokesman.
