UAE supporting development of Bahrain International Airport
Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) announced (17-Feb-2016) the development of Bahrain International Airport is being funded from the AED9.2 billion (USD2.5 billion) grant provided by the UAE to Bahrain in 2013 as part of the GCC development programme for the country. The USD1.1 billion expansion aims to increase its capacity to 14 million passengers p/a to meet the anticipated growth in the number of passengers transiting through the airport and to ensure the airport's infrastructure can handle the next generation of modern aircraft. The project also seeks to upgrade the services and facilities provided by the airport and ensure they are in line with leading international standards, while enhancing the competitiveness of the airport as a regional aviation hub.
