Ryanair urges German Government to prevent disruption at Berlin airports
Ryanair urged (13-Mar-2017) Germany's Government to take action to prevent disruption at Berlin Schoenefeld and Berlin Tegel airports following Verdi union strikes. Ryanair cancelled 76 services to and from Berlin due to the strikes on 13-Mar-2017. Ryanair CMO Kenny Jacobs said the ground handling strikes demonstrate the need for increased airport capacity in Berlin and reiterated Ryanair's stance on keeping Berlin Tegel open, while commenting Berlin is "lagging behind" other capitals such as London and Paris in terms of airport capacity. Mr Jacobs added the new Brandenburg Airport will not address Berlin's capacity shortage if Berlin Tegel is closed. He said the completed Brandenburg Airport will have capacity of 27 million passenger p/a, less than Dublin Airport's 35 million, despite Dublin having a population one third the size of Berlin.
