Qantas and Jetstar note dual-brand strategy 'can be liberating' by segmenting customers

Jetstar Group CEO Jayne Hrdlicka, speaking at the CAPA Australia Pacific Aviation Summit, said (04-Aug-2016) full-service carriers "can try and be all things to all people, but that's a very hard thing to do." Ms Hrdlicka noted the Qantas Group had "picked a spot" and segments customers: "That's been a huge asset for us because it's been liberating." Ms Hrdlicka continued: "It's been liberating for Qantas to be really focused on who its core customer is…Every decision is easy because you're not focused on trade offs," adding: "I think a dual brand strategy can be liberating, but it's also very confronting because you have to think about what size and scale your business is and if you've been serving all customers you probably have to think about how you better align your network."
