Mexico City airport infrastructure projects surpasses construction of a new Mexico City Airport

CAPA - Centre for Aviation, in a report entitled: 'Mexico City: the next round in creating a new capital city airport', stated (06-Feb-2020) the cost of converting Mexico City Santa Lucia Airbase, when added to other costs, already exceeds the cost of the New Mexico City International Airport, airport which Mexico's President Andrés Obrador [AMLO] abandoned. AMLO abandoned the USD13 billion new airport project at Texcoco in favour of upgrades to the existing Benito Juárez airport, some tinkering with the secondary Toluca Airport, and the transformation of a military airbase at Santa Lucía into a commercial facility by adding two runways (while retaining one for the military).
