Lufthansa plans to launch low-cost subsidiary under Germanwings brand: report

Lufthansa plans to operate its new low-cost subsidiary, scheduled for launch in Jan-2013, under the Germanwings brand, according to a Handelsblatt report. The new low-cost subsidiary will operate European traffic of the core brand Lufthansa outside of the main hubs in Frankfurt and Munich. The airline will operate with a fleet of 90 aircraft and is expected to handle 18 million passengers p/a. The carrier will be headquartered in Cologne.
