Germanwings was a German low cost airline fully owned by Lufthansa. Based mainly at Cologne-Bonn Airport, with secondary hubs across the country, Germanwings operated a fleet of narrow-body Airbus aircraft supporting an extensive network of services throughout Germany and Europe, as well as Asia and the Americas. Deutsche Lufthansa AG announced plans to integrate Germanwings into the Eurowings Group in 2008. The carrier operated independently until Oct-2015, when the programme commenced. Lufthansa completed the merger in early 2016, with Germanwings continuing to operate under the Eurowings Brand.
On 07-Apr-2020, Lufthansa Group announced the implementation of Eurowings' objective of bundling operations into one AOC will be accelerated, with Germanwings operations to be discontinued.
