LCCs now account for 30% of air services in Germany: DLR
German Aerospace Center (DLR) published (19-Jun-2018) a report on the state of low cost airline operations in Germany. Highlights include:
- Around 30% of all services in Germany are carried out by LCCs. Eurowings, easyJet and Ryanair "dominate growth";
- Overall, LCC operated routes increased from 518 to 642 since the insolvency of airberlin;
- Eurowings achieved 40% year-on-year growth from 4Q2018 to 1Q2018, while easyJet grew 100%;
- Rising oil prices and the expansion of LCCs at major airports resulted in the average gross price of a one way LCC fare increasing from between EUR44 and EUR105 to between EUR53 and EUR117. [more - original PR - German]
