Joby Aviation to launch UK air taxi service with Virgin Atlantic
Joby Aviation announced (15-Mar-2025) a partnership with Virgin Atlantic Airways to launch its electric air tax service in the UK. Building on an existing agreement with Delta Air Lines, the partnership will initially focus on regional and city connections from Virgin Atlantic's hubs at London Heathrow Airport and Manchester Airport. Virgin Atlantic will support Joby's go-to-market efforts in the UK by marketing the service, engaging regulators and helping to build support for the development of landing infrastructure at key airports. Joby's electric air taxis, capable of carrying up to four passengers at speeds of 200mph, will offer seamless, emissions free travel. Virgin Atlantic customers will be able to reserve seats via the airline's app, website and other channels. Potential connections include a 15 minute flight from Manchester to Leeds, or an eight minute journey from Heathrow to Canary Wharf, compared to 80 minutes by car. Joby also plans to build a network of landing locations across the UK, with prices expected to be on par with existing premium ridesharing options at launch. [more - original PR]
