IASC determines seating allocations for V Australia and Jetstar on Fiji route

International Air Services Commission released (23-Oct-2009) its draft determinations on seat allocations Fiji route, proposing to allocate 907 seats per week to V Australia and 852 seats per week to Qantas (for Jetstar), effectively halving the capacity, with Qantas' codeshare agreement with Air Pacific taken into account. IASC stated both proposals would benefit the public, with the splitting of the capacity to provide increased competition. V Australia had originally applied for 1,267 seats on the route, while Jetstar had applied for 1,491 seats (The Australian, 24-Oct-2009). Qantas stated it was still assessing the determinations, but should be able to start the services in Apr-2010, as originally planned. The Commission is expected to meet on 05-Nov-2009 to settle final determinations. The Commission also approved allocation requests made by Qantas for services to Korea, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, South Africa, Thailand and Vanuatu and Pacific Blue for services to the Cook Islands and Tonga.
