Tonga is a sovereign state and an archipelago located in the South Pacific Ocean, comprising of 176 islands. Its two major airports are Fuaʻamotu International Airport and Vava'u International Airport, which is also known as Lupepauʻu International Airport (VAV). Fuaʻamotu International Airport is served by Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways and Virgin Australia, while Polynesian Airlines operates charter flights to the islands. Tonga Ministry of Civil Aviation is the authority responsible for administering and regulating the aviation industry in Tonga. Tonga Airports Ltd operates the country's airports.
