easyJet to close East Midlands Airport, reduce capacity at Luton

easyJet confirmed (07-Dec-2009) plans to close its base at East Midlands Airport from 05-Jan-2010 and will also reduce its operations at London Luton Airport by 20%. The carrier operated ten routes from East Midlands Airport to Prague, Nice, Venice, Faro, Barcelona, Alicante, Malaga, Ibiza, Palma and Geneva. From London Luton, the carrier will suspend services to Athens, Cagliari and Vienna, as well as cutting frequencies to destinations including Alicante, Dortmund, Edinburgh, Geneva, Glasgow, Nice and Paris. The carrier carried out a 90-day consultation process with staff will move all 107 affected cabin crew and pilots who wish to move to its other bases. Capacity will be relocated to "more profitable airports". easyJet confirmed it remains committed to its overall medium term growth target of 7.5% p/a. [more]
