BTS reports US carriers on-time performance in Dec-2009

US Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released (12-Feb-2010) the Air Travel Consumer Report for Dec-2009. According to the report, The carriers recorded an on-time performance rate of 72.0% in Dec-09, an improvement over Dec-08's 65.3%, but down from Nov-09's 88.6% mark. In addition, the reporting carriers also reported a mishandled baggage rate of 5.18 reports per 1,000 passengers in Dec-2009. Details include:

• Overall on-time arrival rate: 72%;
• Highest on-time arrival rates:
  • Hawaiian Airlines: 87.0%;
  • Alaska Airlines: 84.0%;
  • United Airlines: 77.3%;
• Lowest on-time arrival rates:
  • American Eagle Airlines: 64.5%;
  • Comair: 65.9%.
