Low Cost Carrier
Ceased Operations on 28-Dec-2014

AirTran (originally known as Valujet) was a former low cost carrier based at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. AirTran provided a route network of both domestic and international services, with major presence in eastern and mid-western US markets and the Caribbean. On 27-Sep-2010, Southwest Airlines announced plans to purchase AirTran in a USD1.4 billion share purchase and fully-integrate the carrier into its own operations. AirTran ceased operating under its own brand after its last service between Atlanta and Tampa Bay on 28-Dec-2014.
