Boom Supersonic: ICAO CAEP reaches agreement on new supersonic aircraft noise standards

Boom Supersonic reported (20-Mar-2025) ICAO reached agreement on new supersonic aircraft noise standards at a meeting of its Committee on Aviation Environmental Protection (CAEP) in Feb-2025. Boom stated that participants at the meeting "aligned on a recommended new standard for landing and takeoff noise that recognises the unique physics and opportunities for noise reduction of supersonic aircraft", adding: "The standard takes into account advanced noise reduction procedures that ensure the public is not disturbed by aircraft noise". The US FAA represented the US at the meeting and Boom provided data to support the FAA's analysis. Boom is targeting certification for its Overture supersonic aircraft "by the end of the decade".
