Boeing, Airbus look to re-engine narrowbody aircraft

Boeing VP, Marketing, Randy Tinseth, stated the manufacturer considers it feasible to upgrade engines on the B737, but a decision rests on customer needs and investment requirements (Bloomberg, 14-Oct-2009). General Electric and Pratt & Whitney have stated they could make new engines available for the B737 and A320 as early as 2016. Qatar Airways' CEO, Akbar Al Baker, commented this week that a re-engined A320 would "most definitely kill the [Bombardier] CSeries programme". [more - Perspective]
