BAA supports high-speed rail link

UK's BAA has come out in support of the construction of a high-speed rail network in the UK, stating it will improve London Heathrow Airport's competitiveness (UK-Airport-News, 05-Nov-2010). UK Transport Secretary Philip Hammond supports the development of a Y-shaped high-speed rail network connecting the West Midlands to Manchester and Leeds in the north of England, to London with a link to Heathrow.

BAA: "High-speed rail is a win for everyone, provided it offers frequent connections and great passenger experience. It is also vital that high-speed rail is fast enough to tempt passengers away from flying short-haul to Europe and continuing from there", Colin Matthews, CEO. Source: UK-Airport-News, 05-Nov-2010.
