Australian Government to provide USD430m 'major relief package' to aviation industry

Australia's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Infrastructure, Transport and Regional Development Michael McCormack announced (18-Mar-2020) "A major relief package is on the way for the Australian aviation industry". The package includes "refunding and ongoing waiving of a range Government charges on the industry including aviation fuel excise, Airservices charges on domestic airline operations and domestic and regional aviation security charges". The total cost of the measures is estimated to be AUD715 million (USD430.2 million), with an upfront estimated benefit of AUD159 million (USD95.7 million) to airlines for reimbursement of applicable charges paid by domestic airlines since 01-Feb-2020.
