Airservices Australia is a government-owned organisation that provides air traffic management services across Australia's Flight Information Region (FIR). Australia's FIR covers approximately 11% of the world's total airspace. This service involves the provision of aeronautical data, telecommunications, navigation services and aviation fire fighting support to Australia's airspace users. Airservices manages air traffic operations for over 80 million passengers on more than four million flights every year. The company employs more than 4000 staff, working from two major centres in Melbourne and Brisbane as well as 29 towers at international and regional airports.
