British Airways & Qatar

On 6 January 2020, British Airways (BA) and Qatar Airways (QR) (together, the Applicants) applied for authorisation to enable them to coordinate air passenger services on routes between Australia and the UK/Europe (the Proposed Conduct). These routes are between four Australian cities and the UK/Europe, and operate via Doha. The Australia-Doha leg of the routes is currently serviced by QR, but not BA (except through code share relationships with Qantas and/or QR).

The Proposed Conduct may involve coordination in relation to activities including: schedule coordination, capacity, revenue planning, joint pricing, sales and marketing activities, service parameters and standards, jointly procuring goods and services and frequent flyer programs.

On 26 March 2020, the ACCC issued a draft determination proposing to authorise the Proposed Conduct for five years and granted interim authorisation.

On 7 May 2020, the ACCC issued a determination authorising the Proposed Conduct until 29 May 2025.
