About
Sendai Airport serves the city of Sendai, the capital city of Miyagi Prefecture, Japan. A demographic centre in the Tōhoku region, Sendai is served by all major Japanese airlines, as well as larger international airlines from North Asia. Sendai Airport has connections to all major Japanese cities. Sendai Airport is operated by Sendai International Airport Co, a consortium led by Tokyu Group which secured a 30-year public service concession. In accordance with a JPY7.8 billion (USD64 million) agreement with the MLITT, the consortium took over terminal operations in Feb-2016. The consortium completed the privatisation programme and took full control of airport operations on 30-Jun-2016. Tokyu Group has a 54% stake in Sendai International Airport, whilst Maeda own a 30% stake and Toyota Tsusho holds a 16% share in the airport operator. Sendai Airport will become Japan's first state-owned airport to be operated by private entities.
