Established in 1973, Republic Airways (formerly Republic Airlines) offers scheduled services as United Express and under the American Eagle brand. The airline is part of Republic Airways Holdings.
The US bankruptcy court approved Shuttle America's merger into Republic on 30-Nov-2016, and the US Department of Transportation approved the surrender of Shuttle America's air carrier certificate, effective 31-Jan-2017. The process is part of Republic Airways Holdings’ "Plan of Reorganisation" as it sought to emerge from chapter 11. Republic Airways Holdings emerged from bankruptcy in Apr-2017. According to Republic Airways, the unified company will emerge as a single air carrier operating the world’s largest fleet of E170/E175 aircraft, under the Republic Airways Inc. brand. The merger was completed on 17-Feb-2017.
