Windhoek Eros Airport serves the capital city of Namibia, Windhoek. Windhoek Eros is the smaller and more central of the two airports serving Windhoek and is limited to domestic services. The more distant Windhoek Hosea Kutako International Airport, where international and intercontinental services are located. Air Namibia operates to various destinations from Eros. The airport is also an important general aviation facility in the region and hosts many charter services in support of the local tourism and safari industry.
In Apr-2018 the Namibia Airports Company (NAC) refuted reports alleging Windhoek Eros Airport is no longer open, noting the airport continues to handle domestic services. Acting CEO Albert Aochamub stated: "All safety and security audit reports by the regulator, the Namibia Civil Aviation Authority, have indicated significant safety and security breaches over many years due to the advanced age of that runway. However, in the absence of an alternative city airport, all domestic routes continue to be operated from there". The government allocated funds to rehabilitate the runway, pending approval from the national council.
