WestJet experiences shift in domestic to transborder and international capacity mix
WestJet stated (26-Jul-2016) overall capacity increased by 6.9% year-on-year in 3QFY2016 and 7% for 1H2016, primarily driven by the addition of four Boeing 767s to its fleet. The carrier noted the domestic to transborder and international capacity mix shifted in 2Q2016, as it experienced a capacity increase in transborder/international markets and a decrease in domestic capacity year-over-year. WestJet attributed the majority of transborder and international capacity growth to its new London Gatwick routes, served by 767 aircraft. The carrier's domestic capacity decreased as a result of redeployed Bombardier Q400 aircraft in eastern Canada, which were previously serviced by 737 aircraft as it allowed a "robust schedule and the removal of unnecessary capacity from off-peak flight times."
