Background ✨
Lufthansa Group’s bid for TAP Air Portugal totalled EUR1.025 billion for 44.9%, potentially rising to up to EUR1.2 billion for 49.9% due to an employee share offer and a ticking fee, while Lufthansa said it aimed to support TAP’s growth and preserve its national identity, with a focus on North and Latin America connectivity1. Lufthansa CFO Till Streichert said first-year synergies of up to EUR450 million were expected and regulatory approvals could take 18 to 24 months2. Streichert also said Lufthansa discussed a possible future acquisition of the remaining 50.1% and that Portugal’s Government could take up to a 5% Lufthansa stake3.
