Venice Marco Polo Airport to undergo EUR350m terminal expansion project supported by EIB

SAVE SpA presented (17-Dec-2018) its EUR350 million terminal expansion project for Venice Marco Polo Airport, recently approved by ENAC. Works will be divided into three phases carried out progressively until final completion in May-2025. The project covers a total surface area of 59,000sqm and includes:

  • Development of a new Schengen remote boarding area;
  • Extension of the Schengen arrivals hall to the mezzanine floor;
  • Installation of a new baggage handing system;
  • Expansion of the landside departure and check in hall;
  • Construction of a new security zone;
  • Construction of five new boarding piers serving Schengen services;
  • Construction of new second floor premises;
  • Construction of a new facility in the north of the terminal to supply logistics of goods and waste management;
  • Development of a new underground level for technical functions to support airport activities.

European Investment Bank (EIB) signed a EUR150 million loan agreement with SAVE SpA to support the terminal expansion project, bringing total project cost to around EUR477 million. The EIB loan will contribute to the terminal upgrade and extension, runway renewal and upgrade and construction of additional taxiway and aircraft parking facilities, increasing capacity from 11 million to 16 million passengers p/a by 2025. Funding will contribute 2700 jobs during the construction phase, with completion adding approximately 500 additional new jobs connected with airport operations.
