UK bans large electronic devices in aircraft cabins on services from six countries

UK's Government announced (21-Mar-2017) phones, laptops and tablets larger than 16cm x 9.3cm x 1.5cm are prohibited in aircraft cabins on services from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Turkey to the UK. The Government stated: "We understand the frustration that these measures may cause and we are working with the aviation industry to minimise any impact" and added: "we face a constantly evolving threat from terrorism and must respond accordingly to ensure the protection of the public against those who would do us harm. The update we are making to our security measures is an important part of that process". The Government, via its official website, updated its foreign travel advice for Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia and Tunisia on 21-Mar-2017, stating: "there is a heightened risk of terrorism against aviation".
