Sri Lankan Govt abandons plans to sell SriLankan Airlines
Sri Lanka's Minister of Ports, Shipping and Aviation Nimal Siripala de Silva announced (03-Jul-2024) SriLankan Airlines will undergo restructuring instead of being sold. Mr de Silva said: "Under Sri Lankan law, only 49% of SriLankan Airlines' shares can be transferred to another entity. However, there has been minimal global interest in this opportunity, with only six individuals expressing interest, none of whom were deemed suitable". As previously reported by CAPA, the Government had earlier shortlisted Sherisha/Supreme Global Consortium, AirAsia Consulting and Hayleys PLC for the privatisation of SriLankan Airlines.
