Southwest Airlines introduces 'Destination 225°' pilot career programme

Southwest Airlines introduced (01-Aug-2019) the 'Destination 225°' career programme, seeking to meet increasing pilot demand in the coming years by catering to "high-potential" pilots at their current experience level through pathways which will give them the ability to become a candidate for future Southwest first officer positions. Southwest plans to partner with CAE, Bell Murray Aviation, US Aviation Academy, Jet Linx, XOJET Aviation, Swift Air, Arizona State University, Southeastern Oklahoma State University, University of Nebraska Omaha and the University of Oklahoma. Participants selected for the programme will be allocated to a Southwest mentor and undergo comprehensive training and a continuous evaluation process. The pathways are as follows:

  • Cadet Pathway: For skilled individuals;
  • University Pathway: For collegiate pilots who attend a Southwest partner university or complete Southwest Campus Reach Internship;
  • Military Pathway: For active military pilots who do not meet airline pilot minimums;
  • Employee Pathway: For Southwest employees. [more - original PR] [more - original PR - CAE]
