South Korea's passenger numbers up 5% to 6.4m in Oct-2013, int'l pax up 6% to 4.3m

South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reports (27-Nov-2013) the following traffic highlights in Oct-2013:

  • Passenger numbers: 6.4 million, +5.2% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 2.1 million, +3.1%;
    • By carrier:
    • International: 4.3 million, +6.2%;
      • Japan: 873,325, -4.7%;
      • China: 1.1 million, +12.3%;
      • Southeast Asia: 1.5 million, +9.6%;
      • Americas: 343,654, +1.8%;
      • Europe: 311,921, +9.7%;
      • Oceania: 142,414, -0.3%;
      • Others: 76,408, +20.7%;
      • By carrier:
        • Korean Air: 1.4 million, stable;
        • Asiana Airlines: 1.0 million, +5.3%;
        • Air Busan: 79,000, +44.1%;
        • Eastar Jet: 61,000, -4.4%;
        • Jeju Air: 139,000, +36%;
        • Jin Air: 64,000, -11.4%;
        • T’way: 29,000, +7.2%.

According to the Ministry, South Korea’s LCCs accounted for 8.6% of the total international passengers in Oct-2013, up 0.8 ppt. South Korea’s LCCs had a domestic market share of 48.5%, up 4.8 ppts.
