South Korea’s domestic pax up 11% to 30.9m in 2016, int’l pax up 19% to 73.0m

South Korea’s Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs reported (30-Jan-2017) record high passenger traffic of 103.9 million in 2016, annual passengers exceeded the 100 million mark for the first time in the country’s history. Traffic highlights in 2016:

  • Passenger numbers: 103.9 million, +16.2% year-on-year;
    • Domestic: 30.9 million, +10.5%;
      • Korean Air: 7.9 million, +6.4%;
      • Asiana: 5.4 million, +3.6%;
      • LCCs: 17.6 million, +14.9%;
        • Air Busan: 3.7 million, +13.9%;
        • Air Seoul: 96,876;
        • EasterJet: 2.5 million, +22.9%;
        • Jeju Air: 4.5 million, +8.1%;
        • Jin Air: 3.9 million, +20.9%;
        • T’way: 2.8 million, +9.3%;
    • International: 73.0 million, +18.8%;
      • China: 19.9 million, +20.5%;
      • Japan: 15.1 million, +24.2%;
      • Southeast Asia: 25.1 million, +20.2%;
      • Americas: 4.8 million, +5.9%;
      • Europe: 4.6 million, +6.1%;
      • Oceania: 2.5 million, +17.8%;
      • Others: 972,129, +11.0%;
