ACI EUROPE, Airlines for Europe (A4E) and IATA wrote to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen seeking "immediate intervention" on EES, warning of severe operational consequences and unsustainable pressure during peak summer.1 It urged flexibility for member states to suspend EES when volumes exceed capacity in Jul/Aug-2026, and a permanent mechanism by Sep-2026.1 Fraport CEO Stefan Schulte said passengers queued for hours at peak times and called for border authorities to be able to suspend EES whenever needed.2
