Qantas and Jetstar Airways apply to ACCC for JV coordination agreement for Jetstar brand
Qantas and Jetstar Airways applied (11-Jul-2012) to the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission on 28-Jun-2012 for approval to coordinate between each other and existing and future airlines operating as Jetstar LCCs predominantly in the Asia Pacific region and under the Jetstar brand/business model. The purpose of the agreement is to deepen the Qantas Group's presence in the Asia Pacific by expanding the Jetstar network, pursuant to the next stage of the 'Jetstar Pan-Asia Strategy' which involves establishing Jetstar branded JVs in a number of Asian countries, in cooperation with local full service airline partners. The agreement includes coordination between each Jetstar LCC and its full service airline shareholder, as well as the coordination of each of the Jetstar LCCs with each other and with Qantas and Jetstar Airways. Under this agreement all network, scheduling, pricing, marketing, purchasing, customer service and resourcing decisions will be coordinated between:
- Qantas, Jetstar Airways, Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Pacific, Jetstar Japan and Jetstar Hong Kong;
- Jetstar Japan and Japan Airlines;
- Jetstar Pacific and Vietnam Airlines;
- Jetstar Hong Kong and China Eastern Airlines;
- A Jetstar JV, its local partner airline and any other airline in the Jetstar Group to the extent they overlap or potentially overlap. [more - original PR]
