Nok Air 2Q2016 operating loss due to revenue decrease following reduction in domestic operations

Nok Air attributed (15-Aug-2016) its 2Q2016 operating loss to a decline in total revenue caused by a reduction in domestic frequencies to match available pilot capacity. Passenger numbers decreased 3.1% year-on-year and passenger yield decreased 8.9%. New international routes and frequencies resulted in a 1% increase in ASKs. Revenue from international scheduled and charter services increased 111.28%. Charter services to China increased 65.7% with 116 services operated in 2Q2016. Operating costs increased due to depreciation of the Thai baht against the US dollar, new aircraft lease and maintenance costs and engine shop visit expenses. RASK decreased to THB1.95 (USD0.06) and CASK increased to THB2.37 (USD0.07). [more - original PR]
