Nigeria updates travel protocols, including quarantine and potential penalties for airlines

Nigeria's Presidential Task Force On COVID-19 announced (10-Jan-2021) updated travel protocols for all travellers arriving in Nigeria, effective 11-Jan-2021. Details include:

  • Pre-departure:
    • Passengers must perform a COVID-19 PCR test not more than 96 hours prior to boarding;
    • Passengers must register via the Nigeria International Travel Portal, complete a health declaration form and upload their test results to the portal;
    • Passengers then download a permit to travel certificate;
  • Boarding:
    • Passengers must present their negative COVID-19 PCR test result and permit to travel certificate;
    • Travellers will be required to undergo temperature screening;
    • Airlines will be fined USD3500 per passenger for failure to comply with pre-boarding requirements. Airlines that fail to comply with the requirements may be banned from operating to Nigeria;
  • On arrival:
    • Passengers must present their negative COVID-19 PCR test result and permit to travel certificate;
    • Travellers must proceed to a mandatory seven days of self-isolation/quarantine;
