Nigeria’s Government announced it has stepped up efforts to replace ageing infrastructure across the country as part of plans to achieve full implementation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation’s (ICAO) standards and recommended practices (This Day (Lagos)/OfficialWire, 03-Apr-2011). The ICAO audit is scheduled for May-2011. Airports included in the government’s first phase of the programme include the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, which is about 80% completed, the Kaduna, Maiduguri, Ilorin, Ibadan, Akure and Benin airports. Contracts for the replacement of control towers at the airports have been awarded, the government said.
