Manchester Airport outlined (02-Jun-2015) elements of its GBP1 billion 10-year transformation programme, which comprises 60 enhancements to increase the airport's attractiveness. The airport noted the following key elements:

  • Expansion and reconfiguration of Terminal 2 to become the airport's primary terminal building;
  • Improvement of Terminal 3 to cater for increased demand and an expanding flight schedule;
  • The introduction of new and enlarged airside transfer facilities, including the direct linkage between Terminals 2 and 3;
  • Addition of a US Customs and Border Protection pre-clearance facility for outbound passengers;
  • Introduction of new technology in a larger security hall to reduce waiting time;
  • Addition of new customer enhancements, including self-check facilities and around 50 food and beverage and retail outlets;
  • Creation of a 'future-proofed' operational airport environment that provides greater flexibility and resilience to cater to evolving airline and security needs;
  • Introduction of new stands and piers, offering better departure gate facilities;
  • Improved surface access road system making it easier for customers to come to and from our airport.

As previously reported by CAPA, Manchester Airport Group said the airport has slowed its loss of passengers to London-area airports and hoped to start winning passengers back with improved facilities and services. [more - original PR]
